Today was all about the mast (and a little bit about the engine.)
The mast is currently not on the boat, we need to fit a Tricolour, Deck light and VHF antenna to the mast before we put it up and to do that we needed to run new cables. These jobs are never as easy as they first seem but it was much easier after removing the foot of the mast, we tried to see if we could do it without at first.

^ This is our mast (the Gold one)

^ This is the view once we had taken the foot off the mast looking up it.
So all the cables are now run 🙂 just need to pressure wash the green off and fit the lights and antenna, thats tomorrow job!
I said it was also about the engine, so I will explain…
The engine is the original 8hp Sabb which she was built with, it has been fully refurbished (a number of years ago) but a few years ago the engine was run and all works. All that needs doing is the engine mounting properly in the boat. However, when we checked last week there was no compression on the engine… Knowing the history of the boat (and very good friends with the previous owner 🙂 ) means that we know there is nothing serious wrong with the engine. The only thing we could guess at was it needed a little TLC, so we removed the head to re seat the valves.

^ Head of the engine with valves removed.
This seems to be the fix so tomorrow we will re-mount the head to the engine 🙂
Thats a few things off the job’s list!

Don’t forget to re torque the head nuts correctly and fit a new head gasket ?
Hi Paul, head gasket is a copper one and should be OK but do have a new one if needed. Re the torque of the bolts will be as per the manual (100 ft-lbs) which we do surprisingly have being that the engine is as old as the boat if not older!!
