Baby On Board

So, It’s fair to say that we are a little way from our maiden voyage on Audina.. But we do regularly spend time on the boat as a family.

What this actually means is Dorian works on the boat whilst Clara and I try not to freeze our butts off and I try to find ingenious ways to entertain a (nearly) 9 month old crawling baby.

Here are a few of my survival tips:

1) Baby carriers are worth their weight in gold!
They make carrying a baby up a ladder slightly less terrifying, she can nap without me having to lay her down somewhere, (because there currently is nowhere suitable) and occasionally it means I have my hands free to help with the boat!

This is our amazing Ergo Baby Carrier, Clara is wrapped up well and fast asleep in this photo 🙂

2) Snacks:
Sometimes a snack buys you five minutes when your baby is intent on climbing into the bilges or causing general havoc in a confined space filled with tools and very unsuitable play objects.

3) Toys- think inside the box:
Toys are so last week… I can hold Clara’s interest with a toy for 5 minutes or 10 if I’m lucky, however give her a wrapped pack of sponges to try and break into or a box full of rolls of tape etc. which she can happily empty and she may actually stay put in the “safe baby zone” for a full 20 minutes.
